Ottawa/Vancouver – March 5, 2024—Women in Resource Development Corporation (WRDC) is leading the Increasing Pathways to Secure, Meaningful Employment through Design and Implementation of Inclusive Skills Development Policies project1 to advance inclusive skills development policies and practices, create a more equal distribution of economic resources, and remove barriers that prevent women from fully participating in economic spheres. This project has been funded through Women and Gender Equality Canada’s Feminist Response and Recovery Fund.
The Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) is serving as a project partner to provide support and advice to WRDC in achieving the project’s objectives. From October 2023 to February 2024, SRDC’s reports were reviewed to find new ways to measure employment success.
Report Key findings:
- The study found that only looking at narrow employment outcomes doesn’t show the whole picture of progress.
- The milestone approach, which considers smaller steps toward bigger goals, is more effective in measuring progress.
- The Skills for Success model emphasizes the importance of developing a variety of skills necessary for work, education, and society. It defines nine essential skills that Canadians need for success.
- The Social Research and Demonstration Corporation recommends taking a broader approach to measuring employment success, focusing on overall progress on employment pathways.
- Consider variations among different populations and avoid one-size-fits-all approaches. Take into account different contexts and subgroups.
The WRDC and SRDC will use these insights to create a supportive environment for women in their employment journeys. This project aims to help women achieve fulfilling, long-term careers and sets a new standard for skills development and employment programming.
