Connecting Youth with Racialized Identities to Employment: Strengthening Skills for Success through Mentoring
SRDC, in partnership with Mentor Canada, is investigating, co-designing, and mobilizing knowledge about ways to improve access to employment and community-based mentoring opportunities for young people (aged 18-35) with racialized identities. The project is specifically focused on mentoring designed to strengthen skills and support career pathways for racialized youth.
The project’s objectives are to produce knowledge and understanding of how skills encapsulated by the Skills for Success framework (particularly adaptability, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving) are enhanced by mentoring relationships, and how these skills gains can influence better labour market outcomes for racialized youth; and, to develop a hub of expertise where employers, mentoring organizations, and youth can access resources related to employment-focused mentoring and responsive opportunities to build skills on their career journeys.
