Outcomes Report for the Workplace Training Program, British Columbia

Many service industry workers are caught in a vicious cycle of poor skills, low productivity, and low wages. SRDC recently participated in an innovative program designed to break this cycle by providing essential skills and sector-specific training for retail and tourism workers in British Columbia. The Workplace Training Program, led by Douglas College and delivered by the BC Consortium for Skills Development, yielded very promising results on a number of fronts.

SRDC’s evaluation found significant improvements in participants’ test scores, attitudes, and self-assessed job performance. Performance improvements were corroborated in interviews with employers that pinpointed their estimates of the business value of the training.
