The Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) organized 2 one-day policy research workshops sponsored by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on February 18, 2002 in Calgary and February 20, 2002 in Toronto. The primary purpose of the workshops was to discuss possible interventions to help improve the integration of government-assisted refugees (GARs) into the labour market. More specifically, CIC was interested in learning further about effective ways to increase language acquisition in order to improve labour market outcomes of government-assisted refugees in the years immediately following their arrival to Canada.
