										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Mentor Canada and Mentorat Québec are leading this innovative 36-month project to address systemic barriers for women and gender-diverse individuals in male-dominated sectors. This project uses mentorship as a tool to foster inclusion and support systemic change and is funded by Women and Gender Equity Canada (WAGE).</p>
<p>Central to this project is the development of a comprehensive bilingual toolkit, designed with a GBA+ lens, to help organizations build capacity to design, implement, and evaluate inclusive mentoring programs. Training materials for mentors focus on increasing their understanding of the systemic barriers faced by women and gender-diverse individuals and equip them to act as agents of change. Additionally, the project provides resources for mentees to help them fully leverage the benefits of their mentoring relationships. Finally, engagement activities led by Mentor Canada will motivate stakeholders to adopt and embrace mentoring as a lever for inclusion in male-dominated sectors.</p>
<p>SRDC is evaluating this project to explore how mentorship drives and supports systemic change that advances the economic security of women and gender-diverse individuals. As a learning partner, SRDC is also contributing to the development of the toolkit and resources.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This project focuses on supporting apprentices from equity-deserving groups, including women, gender-diverse individuals, youth, Indigenous people, and racialized individuals in Ontario, Alberta, and Nova Scotia. Build a Dream delivers learning programs aligned with the unique needs of these apprentice groups to improve their overall skills and Red Seal trades competencies. Build a Dream also brings unions and employers together to facilitate more inclusive work placement opportunities.</p>
<p>The project comprises an Apprenticeship Incubator program, which aims to improve the quality of training in the skilled trades by upgrading the social-emotional skills of apprentices. Another programming component, #PowerUP Skills, upgrades apprentices’ technical competencies by providing more hands-on experience in a safe learning environment. Finally, Build a Dream organizes and delivers You’re Hired Road Shows across the country to facilitate the connections between apprentices from equity-deserving groups to employers and unions, improving their access to work placement and employment opportunities. SRDC is the research and evaluation partner of the project, collecting data to conduct implementation research and evaluate the outcomes of all programming components.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As part of the Women’s Employment Readiness pilot funded by Employment and Social Development Canada, the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) has designed and implemented STEM Streams, a pre-employment and skills development training program for women and gender-diverse people interested in pursuing or advancing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (i.e., STEM fields). Through the pilot program, participants access a series of eight skill development workshops, one-to-one coaching, personalized wrap-around supports, mentoring activities, and career connection programming. Working with capitalW, SRDC has been engaged to help assess STEM Streams by facilitating a series of online sharing circles with program participants to gather their perspectives on the program. Results will help better understand participants’ experiences with the STEM Streams pilot program and gather suggestions for future training.</p>

These additional supports (i.e., training and a toolkit) will offer grantees promising, evidence-based practices to increase protective factors using a strengths-based and anti-oppressive approach. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) created the In The Trades (ITT) apprenticeship program to support unionized contractors in Canada by providing financial incentives to hire and effectively onboard and retain first-year apprentices, particularly those from equity-deserving groups. CBTU has engaged SRDC to conduct an evaluation of the ITT project to determine the effectiveness of the program in providing financial incentives and support to SMEs to hire and retain new first-year apprentices as well as increasing the representation of the equity-deserving groups in the skilled trades. SRDC is also documenting the role of stakeholder partnerships to improve participation rates and project success and capturing project operations, best practices, resources, and innovations in the project model.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>While the higher prevalence of homelessness for 2SLGBTQ+ youth has been well documented, there is a small but growing evidence base of housing inequities experienced by 2SLGBTQ+ adults, particularly in terms of qualifying for mortgages, unaffordable market rates, and employment/income insecurity. Unique barriers and facilitators exist in different contexts, particularly those with a higher density of 2SLGBTQ+ housing and adjacent supports (i.e., tailored resources, programs, and services) and lower density, typically rural, areas.</p>
<p>Expanding on a framework developed as a part of a previous project with Mentor Canada and the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, we are conducting a comparative case study to explore facilitators and barriers to 2SLGBTQ+ identified adults accessing holistic housing across the life course from emerging adulthood to old age. In partnership with an advisory group of queer adults and housing/support service providers, we will identify two cases for comparison: that of a high-density supports community for queer adults in Canada and a low-density supports community.</p>
<p>By collaboratively exploring how identity influences access to housing and supports throughout adulthood, and the facilitators and barriers to holistic, thriving-oriented vs. survival-oriented housing, we will map individuals’ housing ‘journeys,’ experiences, and their contextual influences. In turn, this will identify leverage points around which prototypes and solutions can be co-designed by queer adults, housing stakeholders, and policymakers at different levels of government.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This report presents a summary of evidence about economic, health, and social inequities faced by LGBTQ2S+ individuals in Canada, gathered as part of a multi-phase, mixed-methods research initiative. Funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) and carried out by the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation, the project was conducted in partnership with Pride at Work Canada, the Labour Market Information Council, and Dr. Sean Waite at the University of Western Ontario. The report integrates findings from all phases of the research, offering recommendations. It also proposes a conceptual framework summarizing the key factors influencing employment and labour market outcomes for LGBTQ2S+ people in Canada.</p>
<p>The findings from this project suggest that LGBTQ2S+ individuals in Canada continue to face economic, health, and social inequities that are systemic and mutually reinforcing. These include but are not limited to greater rates of poverty and homelessness, disparities in annual employment earnings, lower rates of life and job satisfaction, poorer general and mental health, increased stress, higher rates of food insecurity, and lower rates of community belonging. Gender minority and bisexual-identified individuals are among those consistently reporting the poorest outcomes. Our findings point towards solutions in the realm of data, research, and policy to address the observed inequities.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Girls’ Fund supports programs that give girls and gender-diverse youth tools to develop into confident, resilient people, right when they need this support most. In preparation for the next Girls’ Fund cohort, The Canadian Women’s Foundation (CWF) has commissioned an update of the evidence informing Girls’ Fund programming for adolescent girls and gender-diverse youth. Based on needs identified stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, CWF is also engaging with community organizations to understand their experiences with anti-oppressive mental health approaches for children and youth, in preparation for designing and implementing an anti-oppressive mental health pilot in Girls’ Fund programming.</p>
