										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This project examines the experiences of equity-deserving individuals who face barriers to accessing student financial assistance (SFA) in Canada. Despite the availability of federal and provincial supports, some current and prospective postsecondary students do not apply for or receive financial aid, even when they may be eligible. This study seeks to understand why.</p>
<p>Using a mixed-methods research design, the project gathers evidence from two groups: current postsecondary students who are not using student financial assistance and youth aged 18 to 30 who are not currently enrolled in postsecondary education. Surveys provide national-level insight into awareness, perceptions, and barriers, while in-depth interviews explore how financial, administrative, informational, and personal factors shape decision-making.</p>
<p>By centring the lived experiences of equity-deserving populations, the project aims to generate actionable evidence to inform policy improvements to make SFA more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of diverse learners across Canada.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This project studies entrepreneurship activities among Ontario’s postsecondary graduates using the Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform (ELMLP). The analysis uses two waves of the National Graduates Survey (NGS) to identify graduates who engaged in entrepreneurial activities during their studies. These activities included starting a business, completing entrepreneurship-related coursework, participating in pitch competitions, visiting entrepreneurship centres, or working on social entrepreneurship projects. Measures of program characteristics, demographic attributes, and institutional types provide a detailed profile of entrepreneurial engagement among student groups.</p>
<p>To assess the relationship between entrepreneurship and post-graduation outcomes, the study links NGS responses with administrative data from the T1 Family File (T1FF) within the ELMLP environment. These linked data support analyses of employment status, self-employment, earnings, job satisfaction, and job skill match, enabling a more complete understanding of the labour market trajectories associated with entrepreneurial engagement. Together, these integrated data sources provide evidence of both the characteristics of students who engage in entrepreneurship among Ontario graduates and the labour market outcomes of entrepreneurial experience during postsecondary education.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Working with ECO Canada, SRDC conducts a qualitative assessment of how major global economic and geopolitical shifts are reshaping conditions for Canadian industries and their workforce needs, with a special focus on the environmental sectors. Recent developments – including trade wars, evolving geopolitical alignments, and uncertainty surrounding the renewal of the Canada‑United States‑Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) – are influencing sector performance in complex and sometimes counterintuitive ways. Many Canadian industries, including those in primary and resource‑based sectors, begin to experience not only challenges but also adaptive or beneficial opportunities, underscoring the need for deeper evidence‑based analysis.</p>
<p>We conduct a comprehensive review and synthesis of Canadian and international literature, scanning academic studies, policy analyses, industry reports, and labour market and skills research. We supplement this literature review with an analysis of secondary data, primarily from Statistics Canada, to contextualize findings. We draw implications on observed and anticipated shifts in labour and skills demand. Finally, we validate findings with industry stakeholders through key informant interviews.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Individuals enter postsecondary education (PSE) through diverse pathways and life situations. Many students transition to PSE directly after completing high school, while others take “gap” years to work or travel. Mature students enter new PSE programs with a wide range of prior experiences, whether gained through years in the workforce or periods of unemployment. The prior experiences of students shape the programs and fields of study they pursue, whether and how they transition between programs and institutions, and their later education and labour market outcomes.</p>
<p>In this project, the education and employment histories of students are sequenced to better understand patterns of mobility and how they relate to a range of education and employment outcomes. The study uses linked administrative data to follow cohorts of students from when they transition into PSE to assess how their level of mobility, both prior to beginning an education spell and during their time spent in school, is associated with these outcomes.</p>
<p>This project aligns with ONCAT’s mandate to support learner mobility in Ontario through collaboration with postsecondary institutions to develop transfer pathways, streamline credit transfer processes, and facilitate transitions to the labour market.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SRDC aims to expand understanding of work‑integrated learning (WIL) in Canada by examining co‑op participation and its relationship to students’ postsecondary and early career pathways. Using the Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform, the project analyzes British Columbia’s postsecondary system &#8211; one of the few jurisdictions with reliable PSIS co‑op reporting and linked K‑12 data &#8211; offering a rare opportunity to study one aspect of WIL participation at scale. We assess the reliability and consistency of the PSIS co‑op indicator in BC and in selected Ontario institutions, supported by a sensitivity test using WIL data from the National Graduates Survey. We then examine who participates in co‑op and explore associations between co‑op, postsecondary persistence, and early labour market outcomes.</p>
<p>Overall, the aim is to: 1) demonstrate what can be learned from this WIL indicator in linked administrative data, 2) provide HEQCO with new insights into student pathways and outcomes, and 3) highlight opportunities to strengthen Ontario’s WIL data infrastructure.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>FSC has partnered with SRDC to launch a new research initiative to advance the use of the OECD’s Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) data in addressing critical gaps in Canada’s skills development ecosystem. SRDC‘s role includes the following activities: Support for the FSC&#8217;s call for proposals to fund up to 10 research projects that strengthen evidence on the role of skills in driving productivity, prosperity, and well-being, and on the mechanisms through which skills are developed, retained, and lost, using PIAAC data; provision of subject matter and methodological expertise to support delivery of the project; conducting one or more research project(s) that complements the selected funded projects, filling in strategic gaps that are not addressed through the Call for Proposals and/or that relate to SRDC’s specific areas of expertise; and organizing and facilitating a PIAAC Research Seminar in Toronto during fall 2026, to generate dialogue and sharing between researchers.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="margin: 12.0pt 0in 12.0pt 0in;"><span style="font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif; color: #44546a;">This project explores the best ways to engage students who are disconnected from school and at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment, or training) in career development. The right support at the right time can reengage students and positively shape their career paths. Yet career development professionals face two major challenges: first, it is often challenging to reach young people who are disconnected from school and not inclined to seek support; and second, when they do reach this population, they may not know what supportive career guidance practices are most impactful.</span></p>
<p style="margin: 12.0pt 0in 12.0pt 0in;"><span style="font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif; color: #44546a;">To address these challenges, the project combines a literature review and environmental scan that identifies promising programs and practices and a survey of 500 school guidance counsellors across Canada that gathers insight on both barriers to engagement and best practices in working with opportunity youth. Together, these sources highlight obstacles to engagement and uncover practical strategies for supporting opportunity youth. The mission of the project is to find tangible ways to reach and engage this population, understand what practices and tools can motivate them to engage in career planning, and learn what further resources are needed to support career counselling practices.</span></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Many young people face challenges accessing labour market information (LMI) that is relevant, engaging, and tailored to their needs; particularly those who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). To address this gap, SRDC is improving youth-focused LMI on a provincial employment platform. The project will develop a suite of integrated resources designed to support career exploration and readiness among youth, with special attention to those who are currently (or at risk of becoming) NEET. Planned components include a youth-aligned career exploration model, an interactive self-assessment tool linked to occupational profiles, and customized content for NEET youth. The initiative also involves redesign recommendations for the platform’s interface to better serve young users and the creation of a labour market information presentation tailored for Alternative Education settings. Focus groups and user testing with NEET youth will be conducted to ensure the tools are accessible, relevant, and effective. Ultimately, the project aims to empower young people with personalized, engaging resources that foster informed career choices, build confidence, and strengthen their pathways into work, education, and training.</p>
