Child Care Pilot Project (CCPP)

The Child Care Pilot Project is a national study conducted by the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) and financed by Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC). Over a period of two (2) years, the project will determine if a new program contributes to the linguistic, cultural and global development of preschool-aged children. This program centres on language development and cultural enrichment interventions delivered by early childhood educators and parents. The importance of conducting such research is based on past findings that show that a fair proportion of children living in francophone minority communities experience a greater number of difficulties when they start school, compared to their Anglophone peers,. A total of five communities participate in the project, including Saint John (New Brunswick), Edmundston (New Brunswick), Cornwall (Ontario), Durham (Ontario), and Edmonton (Alberta). The study will commence in September 2007 and SRDC aims to recruit 300 children born in 2004 or in January 2005.
