img staff voyerThe Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) is recognized as a national leader in social research and experimentation. For more than
two decades, SRDC has been building a knowledge base and learning what works in social policy, as well as what does not work. We have been testing new innovative policy ideas in “real-world” settings in the fields of education, health, employment, and many other areas. Our experience and expertise in designing, implementing, operating and evaluating demonstration projects is unique in Canada.

SRDC’s experienced research staff is motivated by the desire to help policy-makers and non-profit organizations identify and implement policies and programs that improve the well-being of Canadians.

Through our Web site, we will share with you our research, our projects and publications, our activities and our results. I hope that this site will become a valuable source of information for you.

25 years of rigorous research and innovation

SRDC was created to develop, implement, and thoroughly evaluate programs to improve the lives of Canadians. In our early years, this mission was addressed primarily through large-scale policy experiments. These projects gave us unique insights into program delivery and innovation, as well as a depth of experience in a wide range of research and evaluation methodologies.

Today the lessons learned from those large-scale projects are applied to a full range of research and evaluation services (see Our Capabilities). Practitioners value our operational experience in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of interventions that work. Program managers appreciate our expertise in performance measurement and our ability to exploit program data for research and evaluation purposes. Governments rely on our evidence-based reviews to guide system-level renewal of policies and programs. Foundations and other non-profit partners prize our ability to bring methodological rigour to any scale of project.

What truly sets us apart, however, is our history of innovation. We have been running randomized controlled trials and policy experiments for 25 years. We have 15 years of experience in the development and testing of behaviour-based interventions in a number of settings. We have been studying and evaluating social finance initiatives, including social impact bonds, for half a decade. Applied econometrics, pay-for-performance, lab experiments, and longitudinal survey design and management also figure prominently in our portfolio of more than 350 research projects.

Whether a client is interested in technical assistance, a literature review, or a program experiment, they can be confident that SRDC has the knowledge and experience to apply state-of-the-art methodologies to their project. We have assembled a multidisciplinary staff with a broad range of skills and experience, including project management, program administration and field operations, quantitative and qualitative research, systems design and implementation, survey design, data analytics, and policy analysis. While our two main offices are located in Ottawa and Vancouver, we have researchers based in Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto.

SRDC is a non-profit corporation and registered charitable organization. We are independent, non-partisan, and do not receive core funding from any governments. To learn more about our values, see our Code of Practice.
